A portable direction for peritoneal dialysis.

At North South University, we are exploring how fluid handling, sensing and regeneration research could come together in a compact peritoneal dialysis system.

Inside the concept

Wearable arrangement study

Explore the named areas of each concept. Static concept views remain available if 3D is unavailable.

BD Wearable is selected.

BD Wearable

An arrangement around the body. Explore the front enclosure, belt, power module and cartridge housing.

Design studies, not treatment devices. Our next proposed milestone is a reviewed, sealed water-only bench demonstration.

How much equipment does a portable system need?

Compact dialysis is a system problem. Fluid movement, regeneration, sensing and controls have to be considered together.

Moving fluid

Study the arrangement of vessels, pumps and connections, then define how movement will be measured in a sealed water loop.

Investigating regeneration

Examine sorbent-assisted reuse as a research question. Removing contaminants and restoring dialysate composition are separate challenges; a cartridge alone establishes neither.

Measuring system behaviour

Develop sensing, logging and calibration methods that make observations traceable to one recorded configuration.

Building reviewable controls

Bring draft control software, fault-response requirements and hardware interfaces into a reproducible engineering baseline.

Research status

From model to measurement.

A useful next result starts with a defined configuration, clear methods and observations that others can review.

Documented starting point

Concepts and documentation

Research documents, engineering calculations, three concept models and draft control software form the documented starting point.

Proposed next milestone

A water-only bench demonstration

Agree the configuration and review criteria. Establish reproducible software and measurement methods. Retain observations and deviations for independent review.

The proposed demonstration uses a sealed water-only loop with inert media, without human or animal connection. This site presents concept models and research documentation; it does not report a completed physical demonstration.

What the concepts establish

The models communicate design intent. They do not establish clinical performance, regeneration efficacy, sterility, electrical safety, runtime, comfort or cost. The current proposed demonstrator is non-clinical.

Earlier wearable studies and the later portable research direction are retained as distinct concepts. A final operating architecture has not been confirmed.
